Mammoth Cave National Park

[note from Carolyn: as some of you surmised from Ava’s post yesterday – we (the evil parents) are making the girls write some of their blog posts in Spanish to keep their skills fresh. Hoy nosotros fue a Mammoth Cave National Park en la River Styx recorrido. Se fue increible! Llego al parke y agare los boletos para la recorrido. Luego fue al refugio A par hablar con la guia sobre la cueva y nuestra seguridad. El nos llevo a la cueva y inmediatamente se puse muy frio. Todo los cuevas estaban tenuemente iluminados. Nosotros llego a un habitacion medio acre que se llama la rotunda y luego caminamos hasta que comenzo la parte divertida.

Nosotros caminamos por unas escalenas a que se llama la miseria de los hombres gordos y la miseria de los hombres altos. Los dos pasajes son muy apretados y baja entonces los adultos necesitan agacharse los cabezas. Pero yo puedo caminar sin agacharme (Porque yo soy corto). Me dio una sencion de cuevas porque es muy apretado. Luego nosotros ir a la rio de Styx, y en el fin de la recorrido fue a la dome pit. La dome pit es como una barranco estrecho que es ambos profundo y alto. Tu puede ver ariba Y abajo. Fue increible. Tambien aprendi que Mammoth Cave es la cueva mas larga del mundo. Es 412 millas! La cueva es piedra caliza, la techo es piedra arenisca, y la cueva fue formada de agua. Mammoth Cave fue muy divertido!

Today we went to Mammoth Cave National Park on the River Styx tour. It was amazing! We arrived at  the park and got our tickets for the tour. We then went to shelter A to talk to our tour guide about the cave and our safety. He led us to the entrance of the cave and it immediately got colder. All the caves were dimly lit. We came into a half acre cave room called the rotunda, then we were just walking in the cave for a while until the fun part started. 

We walked down a flight of stairs going to what they called, the fat man’s misery and the tall man’s misery. They were both really tight and low places were the adults had to duck their heads. But I could just walk along without ducking (cause I’m short). It gave me a more “cavish” feeling because it was so tight. Then they led us to the Styx river, and at the very end we went to the dome pit. The dome pit is like a narrow ravine that is both deep and tall. You can look up AND look down. It was awesome! I also learned that Mammoth Cave is the longest cave in the world. It’s 412 miles! The cave is limestone, the roof is sandstone, and the cave was formed by water.  Mammoth Cave was a lot of fun!
