Pause Button: Correction

All publications, even excellent ones, are forced to publish the occasional correction or clarification. According to Ava, my article yesterday requires multiple corrections and clarifications. Here is the story, retold in Ava’s own words:

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.  It’s not like I purposely ran into a tree!!  And I don’t “let out blood curdling screams for trivial, non-medical events”, Mom.  Here is what really happened:

I was skiing down the half pipe, which is extremely narrow and bumpy. I had only skied it once before.  In an attempt to slow down I started going higher up the sides and was continuing to do this when I went up a side that conveniently had a lot of trees.  I don’t remember exactly, but I am pretty sure no matter how hard I tried to slow down I just couldn’t. That is when the tree came and whacked me in the face and legs.  So clearly it is all the tree’s fault. It was at this point in time I apparently let out a scream, can you blame me? To be clear, this was the first time I had ever let out a scream of this magnitude.  Yes, I am known to have my dramatic moments, but I do not, and let me quote Mom again, “let out blood curdling screams for trivial, non-medical events,” thank you very much. I also think that this ski run should definitely be black material, because it was not “a little hard to control your speed,” it was very hard.  And Mom was not letting out “gleeful whoops.” Such an exaggeration.

Thank you all very much for your concern, I hope to be fully recovered soon.  Next Tuesday I will fix my crooked nose and tomorrow I will get surgery on the four different places where I broke my kneecap, shifting one piece by a centimeter (she didn’t mention that did she?).  Although I must admit I look a little bad-ass, I mean, bad-butt (sorry Mom).  Thank you all again, we will keep you updated!

Now that I have been properly chastened… since my update yesterday we met with an EMT in Bozeman who told us that her nose needs a surgical repair too. We aren’t wild about that but the alternative sounds worse – extensive rhinoplasty at a later date to fix a broken nose that has healed badly. So, tomorrow @ 08:00 we have knee surgery and Tuesday the 10th we have nose surgery. Dan and Hazel will take off after the nose surgery and resume the trip (is it weird that we all really miss Moby?). Ava and I will stay holed up in MT till the middle of the month. Anyone want to join me and keep Ava entertained?! Thinking I have had all the fun I can take….
