Grand Canyon National Park

Spanish first, English translation below:

Hola otra vez!

English Translation:

Hi again!  We just came from the Grand Canyon!  It was awesome. As soon as we arrived we went to a KOA in the middle of nowhere and set up.  We then proceeded to do some laundry, which was definitely not a highlight of the trip. The rest of the day was completely uneventful, except for getting to FaceTime one of my best friends, which was wonderful, and reading a really good book.  Plus getting to eat Dad’s amazing bread for dinner. After that, we simply chilaxed, read some more and went to bed.

The next day we awoke to freezing temperatures.  We hopped in the car around 9:30 and drove an hour to the Grand Canyon.  On the drive we noticed something that peculiarly resembled snow hitting our windshield.  I tried not to get my hopes up, figuring it was just a little flurry that would end soon. But throughout the drive it remained, and when we arrived there were no signs of it stopping.  Ladies and Gentlemen, we had encountered our first snow sighting on the trip! It was incredible, but severely limited our sight of the Grand Canyon. That was fine though, because we were here for 2 full days!  Hazel and I played around in the snow while we walked along the rim, attempting to see beneath the thick layer of fog. Occasionally we got glimpses of the bottom, but nothing close to the full majestic view you are usually able to see.  Mostly we just played, walked in the snow, ate lunch we had packed and went back home, where it was unfortunately not snowing. Hazel and I did some school work and then retired for the day, eating Lentil soup (I promise, not as bad as it sounds) and going to bed.

The next day was beautiful and clear.  We went to the Grand Canyon once more, though the car ride I finished my amazing book, which is always bittersweet.  Once we arrived we were presented with a clear view of the amazing canyon. It was fantastic. All the colors and layers of rock a mile deep is a very impressive sight to see.  First, we ate lunch at their restaurant, then made a small snowman, and then we hiked a little less than a mile down the canyon, but trust me, it felt more like four on the way up.  We tried to book a spot at the hotel down there, but it was full. Once we made it to the top we trudged back through the snow to our car and headed home. We had pizza for dinner, which was great and a good break.  After seeing Forks Over Knives, a documentary, which I highly recommend, our meals have been more plant based. To my dismay, I was forced to eat veggie burgers recently. Whoever thought to invent those?! Anyways, while eating pizza we watched Ralph Breaks the Internet and then went to bed.  It was a great day, and an even awesomer trip. Next up, Death Valley!
