Introducing Moby

Our home for the next year is an Entegra Emblem, a Class A gas powered RV. We have named him Moby in reference to the famous whale. Shamoo was an obvious choice too – but Moby won out in the end because the acronym game was more fun… According to Dan, an alternate spelling is Mobi, which stands for Muir-n-Slager Overland Bungalow (version i). According to Ava he should really be called “Mobs”, which stands for Mad Ostentatious Big Shelter.

Turns out there are an overwhelming number of choices when looking for an RV. I think most full timers lean toward a 5th wheel (those massive trailers pulled by equally massive pickup trucks) but for whatever reason a true RV seemed to make more sense to these novices. We went with a gas powered machine due to cost – they are about 1/2 the cost of a diesel vehicle. The big tradeoff seems to be pulling capacity – which means we will be going up mountain passes REALLY slowly!

Also, we wanted a model that could sleep all of us comfortably. The big diesels we saw seemed geared toward retirees – a big master with lots of closet space but no bunk beds. Our floor plan is depicted here. Second benefit…. 2 bathrooms! We figured after a day of exploring there might be a race to the loo…
