Arches and Canyonland National Parks

English Version:

The day before yesterday we woke up at 4:00 am to go see the sun rising in the center of a very famous arch in Canyonland National Park (no, not Arches National Park).  It was beautiful, but between the time we got there, 5:00 (it was about an hour drive) and the time the sun rose around 6:30, I had been bitten alive. There were mosquitoes everywhere!  It was absolutely insane. We only stayed as long as we needed to see the sunrise, then quickly scurried to the car. After a cool and miserable morning, we headed to a breakfast place. This was great because my parents let me get a fruit cup and a huge cinnamon roll (although I traded some with Hazel for bacon : ) )!  It was delicious.

Then after that we went to the other close National Park, Arches.  We tentatively stepped out of the car, expecting swarms of mosquitoes to come after us, but, since it wasn’t as near a water source as Canyonlands, we were safe.  It was awesome seeing all the rocks in the daytime, and how red they looked. It was like mars! Despite the bliss of no mosquitoes, we were soon presented with another problem on our walk through the canyon floor: the heat.  It was well over 100 degrees fahrenheit (35 degrees celsius) and dry. After about a mile we gave up and went back to the car, deciding to drive to some of the cool arches (also, I still don’t understand why they don’t just combine Canyonlands and Arches, they both have arches and canyons!).  Driving was the best decision we made all day. The arches were really interesting. There were a lot, but they were all a little bit different. We went to a site called “windows” because of the arches in the rock that let you look out into the valley below. It was really cool. Hazel and I climbed next to one into a little divot which was fun.  After that we went back to the RV camp (which had a pool!) and rested and swam.

Yesterday, after going on an awesome white water rafting adventure, we went back to the Arches National Park for the sunset.  It was really cool (temperature wise and fun wise). The temperature was so much better and the light reflecting off the canyon walls was incredible!  We took a hike to one of the famous arches, the landscape arch, which is said could come down any day now, so we made sure we saw it before it did. Then we went to a look out point for the delicate arch.  We only saw it from afar, so it wasn’t that amazing, but what was amazing was the moon rising over the canyon walls. It was huge! It was full, really bright, and kind of yellow. It was magnificent.  Then, at around 9:45, we finally went back to the RV site for the last time ( we’re going to another one today). We got home, and after a fun but exhausting day (white water rafting really wears you out) I fell asleep quickly.
